After some consideration I have decided to begin researching into Capitalism and the western world. I have had a brief research session and feel that this could be a broad and interesting subject to base both my final practical project and my theory/thesis module on. I shall continue following this subject with extensive research sessions throughout the summer

Nothing to interesting at this stage. I plan on devoting most of my time on researching and exploring a range of research sources. I need to keep all my references and document everything! Research Research Research!

I need to formulate a book list! Theres a range of books i have seen that could benefit my research. Some i plan to buy and some i will wait until i’m back in college and borrow from the library. Books have arrived! Mostly these are books for my theory work. I need to select specific parts of each book to read through, highlights and if necessary i could make notes as i go along. I still have a very big list of research subjects and topics i need to look at

Back to college next week. All this week will be dedicated to carrying out as much research as possible still. There is still a range of social issues i wish to look further into. And i also still have a stack of theory books that need to be read through! I also plan to mind map some thoughts and ideas for my practical work in my sketchbook

Now that i am back in college this week my main aim is to print out all research i have not yet been able to. I also be able to purchase some sketchbooks so that i can organise my body of research and thought processes for both theory and practical work. Finally a trip to the library is necessary as there are still a range of research sources i wish to consider

This week i will begin typing out my proposals for both modules. Ill need to figure out some official titles for my projects for the benefit of the proposals. After doing so i can hand in the first draft of each to be marked. There is a book titled ‘Visual Research’ which i need to borrow from the library to give me a greater understanding of where my research should go from here

After finishing a first draft of both proposals and having them marked i need to make some changes. I also need to do some mind mapping to come up with an idea for my practical project title. I want to start gathering some photographs to show that i aim to use first hand research methods during my project

This week I plan to carry on with research as much as possible. I also need to continue experimenting with different visual tests to show that i am considering aesthetics as well as meanings and ideas. I also need to finalise the proposal for my practical. All practical research and develop, including a proposal needs to be handing in on the 26th of this month

The theory proposal does not have to be handed in until december along with the finished thesis so my main focus this month will be totally practical work. I have completed my proposal and now need to continue with my experimenting and also further expand on my research to get as much as i can handed in at this stage

My proposal book is coming along really well. The written proposal is finalised and all i have to do now is place this text into my book design and print out a mock-up. Once this is done i can continue my research and experimentation until we hand in next week

Hand in tomorrow. Today will be just final additions to my research and development of ideas. I also need to just print of copies of m written proposal to be handed in with the rest of my work. It will also be worth my while figuring out a few things that i need to say when presenting my book tomorrow

This month i don’t feel blogging every week is needed. Its simply a case of getting my thesis typed up and ready. The final hand is 13th December however i wish to have a first draft handed in long before then! This will give me sufficient time to make changes and improvements

Monday 6th December 2010

Final Final Final thesis has to be handed in next week! I have pretty much completed it. I handed in a final draft and have received this back along with my draft proposals. Some minor changes are needed for both and then i am ready to bind. This will be my plan for the week. I also need to read through all my referencing to make sure any mistakes are rectified

Today i want to bind all three copies of my thesis. If i leave until tomorrow or monday there will be a big que. All that is left for me to do is print out the 3 final copies of my thesis. Get everything in order then bind them. Print out three copies of my thesis to go with each thesis. A final thing i forgot to mention was that i have had my practical book proposal print by the company ‘Blurb’ and this will also be handed in on the same date. I am pleased with the way it has printed

As the theory module is handed in it is time to focus back on the practical (more exciting) module. Although it is the festive period i cannot afford to neglect practical work altogether. There is plenty of experimentation and more research i can be getting on with. The only other thing is to type up a semester overview which i will do so today and upload into onto my ‘personal reflection’ page

During the holiday i have been working on a logo for my practical project. I have taken the logo on quite a journey and have keep all my progress in a separate sketchbook. This week i plan on finishing this logo. Im pretty sure that college is back open this week so i need to visit and buy some sketchbooks and other materials and focus as much as i can on some extensive experimenting sessions. My finished logo will be posted on my blog homepage later this week

I seriously need to knuckle down and sort out the compositions, layouts and ideas for my final outcomes. This can only be done by breaking out the pencil and drawing thumbnail after thumbnail to insure they are just right. I also plan to continue experimenting but i need to start considering my ideas when doing so because at them moment i am just messing around with images and not getting no where. I’ve written out my list of initial ideas and need to shorten this but also decide for definite what format my final outcomes will be presented in!

So much to do!! Having worked my ideas down to around 40ish good ones its now a case of continuing the thumbnails and refining each idea. Im trying to work on the mac and with pens and pencils as much as possible…its just a case of working non stop for the next month and a bit…

Mondat 28th March 2011

Deadline extension!! The deadline for this major project has been extended until the 12th May. That means i have a lot longer than i thought! Im convinced that I could use this time effectively to continue developing my posters to become a better final body of work. Having written out a ‘To Do list’ I realised how fortunate I was to get an extension as i have a HUGE amount of work to still complete in many areas. Also we start the exhibition module in the coming weeks so even tho we have extra time to work on our main project I will still have to manage my time effectively.

I am currently working on the schedule I have produced however having decided to design a book which contains images and information about my series of posters I have extra work to complete. I need to have an extensive research period into spread and layout design and then quickly move onto designing and making this book. I have also been continuing experimenting on visual styles for my posters. It may seem slightly late in the project to be doing so however the visual testing I have done on one posters has been very interesting and I would like to try this on a number of others to see if it would be a step forward.
